Description
the only public building burned during the American occupation of York was a structure called the parliament building -- the details of the burning of this building are unclear; the destruction of the village of Newark adjacent to Ft George was disavowed by the United States -- despite the disavowal the British retaliated by burning five villages in New York; the Indian villages at Moravian Town, which were destroyed during William Henry Harrison's campaign along the Thames River, were inhabited by hostile Indians who had been marauding in the United States
