pleased that JM was received well in France; believes JM's speech to the National Convention reflects the sentiments of most Americans; warns that some members of the Senate have expressed opposition to JM's speech because they fear it will interfere with John Jay's mission to Great Britain; supports JM's mission to France; unnecessary expenditures made to quell insurrection in western Pennsylvania; Anthony Wayne's campaigns against Indians; expects peace negotiations between Indians and the United States to begin soon; Congress has done little during current session; congressional election results; Alexander Hamilton and Henry Knox expected to resign from the cabinet; George Washington sent Harry Innis to Kentucky to inform residents of efforts by the national government to gain navigation rights on the Mississippi; agricultural news; land speculation in Pennsylvania back country out of control
